You keep the fabric you print yourself.

A two-hour block printing class in Jaipur where you learn the full process from design to finished cloth, then print your own fabric or scarf using traditional techniques and dyes. The operator provides all materials, a live English-speaking guide, and the finished piece is yours to take home. Children from age two are welcome.

The experience

You start by watching the entire process unfold: how designs get carved into wooden blocks, how fabric is prepared, and how the dyes are mixed. The guide walks you through each step, from the carving stage all the way through the colour-making techniques. Then you get your hands on it. You'll have cloth, dye colours and blocks in front of you, and you'll do the printing yourself: stamping the designs onto the fabric and watching the patterns appear.

Everything you need is provided: the fabric or scarf, the dyes, the blocks, the workspace. You'll also leave with a cotton bag, but the real takeaway is the piece you printed. Two hours is enough to see how the work happens at scale (metres of fabric moving through the process with special techniques), and still have time to create something of your own.

What’s included

  • All printing materials including fabric or scarf, wooden blocks and dye colours.
  • a cotton bag.
