The experience

You start at 8:30 am from the base at 1,530 metres and walk uphill through tea plantations, forest and grassland dotted with rocks. The terrain shifts as you climb: open plantation rows give way to denser forest, then back to grassland as the altitude increases. By 10:30 am you reach the mountain top at 2,100 metres, where you stop to eat fresh fruit and snacks and take in the view across the tea plantations and the surrounding landscape below.

The descent follows the same route in reverse, taking you through three mountain passes and back into the forest and plantation areas. You walk through grassland again from 11:30 am and arrive back at the starting point by 12:30 pm. The full loop covers 10 kilometres and moves at a steady pace with one rest stop at the summit. Your guide speaks English throughout and carries water for the group.

The trek includes entry to the tea plantation, so you walk inside the working plantation itself rather than just past it. Luggage storage and a rest room are available free at the meeting point (Rijo Villa) before and after the trek. If you need pickup and drop-off from your hotel, that can be arranged for an additional cost.

What’s included

  • Entry to the tea plantation.
  • an English-speaking guide for the full trek.
  • fresh fruit and snacks at the summit.
  • a water bottle.
  • luggage storage and rest room access at the meeting point.
