The experience

The day begins with hotel pickup and a drive to Kuldhara Village, where a guide walks you through the 13th-century ruins and explains the documented history of why the settlement was abandoned. The village itself is the draw: stone structures, narrow lanes, and the physical record of how people lived centuries ago. After the village tour, you ride a camel for about an hour into the golden dunes, timed so you watch the sunset from the desert itself. The ride ends at a camp set up on the sand.

At the camp, you're greeted with refreshing drinks and snacks in the traditional Rajasthani style. The cultural program begins after sunset: live folk dancers and musicians perform, with Kalbelia Dance as the highlight. A sensuous form where performers wear black clothes with mirror work and men play instruments in colorful turbans. The performance is followed by a vegetarian buffet dinner served in the camp area. After eating, you sleep in a mobile camping tent or under the open sky on the sand, with a bed and blanket provided.
