The experience

The tour starts at the Directors' bungalow with tea and refreshments, then moves into the estate by 4x4 vehicle. You'll walk the nursery to see how tea seedlings are raised, then head to the working plantations where you can watch pluckers harvest leaves and try on the traditional baskets and hats they use. If plucking is underway, you can participate. This is not a staged demonstration but the actual work of the estate.

The factory visit shows every stage of tea processing: withering (where leaves lose moisture), rolling (which shapes them), fermenting (which develops flavor and color), drying (which stops fermentation), and sorting (which grades them by size). Factory staff explain what happens at each step and why it matters to the final tea. The tasting session that follows lets you taste the difference: Assam teas made at different times of year, blends from other Indian regions, teas from outside India, and flavored varieties. You taste the same leaf processed different ways so you can hear what the factory work actually produces.

Lunch is served back at the bungalow and built from organic ingredients grown on the estate or in nearby villages, prepared using traditional methods. The meal is vegetarian and includes a veg sandwich, pakora (potato, onion and tea-leaf fritters), and tea. Bottled water and restrooms are available throughout the day.
