The experience

You arrive in Aurangabad and the driver meets you at your chosen pickup point, then drives you 100 km north to Ajanta Caves: a two-hour journey in a private, air-conditioned sedan. The caves sit 4 km from the parking lot. A shuttle bus runs every 15 minutes to carry you up. The driver helps you buy entry and shuttle tickets, then you spend roughly three hours walking through 30 caves carved into the rock face between the 2nd century BC and the 5th century AD. The murals inside depict the life of the Buddha and Jataka tales in detail that has survived over two millennia.
