The experience

Day one is a 2-hour drive from Aurangabad to Ajanta Caves, where 30 Buddhist rock-cut caves carved between the 2nd century BC and 5th century AD stand in the rock face. You spend about 3 hours exploring them before returning to Aurangabad with a lunch stop along the way. Day two starts early at Ellora Caves, a UNESCO site with rock-cut temples and monasteries that takes 2 to 3 hours depending on your pace, then moves to Grishneshwar Temple (one of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva) for about an hour of worship and exploration.

After lunch, you visit Daulatabad Fort, known for its defense architecture and historical significance, which takes 1 to 2 hours to walk through. The tour ends at Bibi Ka Maqbara, often called the "Taj of the Deccan" because it was built in memory of Aurangzeb's wife. Allow about an hour to see the architecture and gardens. Your driver then drops you at your hotel, the airport or the railway station.
