The experience

The tour begins at 6am, when your driver and guide meet you at your Agra hotel or train station. You drive directly to Taj Mahal and enter during sunrise. Your guide walks you through the monument, explaining its history and architectural details, and helps you frame photographs before the site fills. After Taj Mahal you return to your hotel for breakfast, then head to Agra Fort, where the Mughal emperors lived. Inside the fort you see palaces and get a sense of how the rulers lived.

From Agra Fort you drive to Sikandra, a five-storied mausoleum built for the Mughal emperor Akbar. It is the largest mausoleum in Agra by area, and the gardens around it sometimes hold deer and peacocks. Your final stop is the Tomb of Ait-Ma-udaula, also called Baby Taj Mahal. Though it echoes the design of Taj Mahal, the guide will show you how it stands as its own monument. Lunch at a local restaurant is included partway through the day.
