The experience
The drive from Shimla to Karsog takes 3 hours and runs alongside the Satluj River through the hills. You arrive at lunch, then walk out to the fields where locals grow vegetables, rice and fruit. This is where you get a first look at how the village works. The evening is yours to walk around and settle in. Dinner and the first night happen at the homestay, a traditional house where you stay for the full 2 nights.
Day two starts with breakfast and a hike from the village to its highest point, where the views open onto the surrounding hills and the river below. After you come back down and eat lunch, the afternoon moves to the river itself: you spend the evening at the riverside before returning to the homestay for dinner. The final morning is breakfast and the 3-hour drive back to Shimla, where the tour ends.
A guide who speaks English and a driver travel with you for all three days, so you have someone to explain what you are seeing and to answer questions about village life. The guide also connects you with the older people in Karsog who share local stories and knowledge. This is how you learn what daily life actually looks like here, not how it looks to a passing visitor.
