The experience

If you have a free weekend and want to reach 10,000 feet without weeks of training, Naag Tibba fits between Friday evening and Sunday night. The trek starts from the Himalayan village of Pantwari with a gradual 3-hour walk to the base camp, where you sleep in a tent and the evening is yours to walk the forest. Day two starts early: you climb to the summit, spend time taking in the views of the Doon valley and the peaks to the north, then descend back to base camp by lunch. After eating, the group walks back down to Pantwari and reaches Mussoorie by evening.

An expert trek leader qualified in mountaineering guides the group and manages the camp. Cooks, helpers and porters come along, so you carry only a day pack. All technical gear (tents, sleeping bags, mats) is provided, along with dinner, breakfast, snacks and lunch. Permits are included. The trek moves at a pace that suits beginners. The forest walk on day one is gradual, and the summit push on day two is steep but short enough to finish before midday heat.

Pickup is included from Delhi. Guides speak English and Hindi. The trek welcomes children from age 6 onward, though it is not suitable for travelers with spinal injuries or significant cardiovascular concerns.
