The experience
Want to know if you can actually climb ice with no experience? You can. The day starts at the basecamp in Skaftafell, where you'll get fitted with a helmet, crampons, harness and ice axe, then receive a safety briefing and learn the basic techniques: how to walk on ice, how to use the tools, what to watch for. Your certified guide walks you through it all before you step onto Falljökull glacier.
The glacier hike itself covers dramatic terrain: you'll cross blue ice ridges, peer into crevasses and moulins (the water cauldrons where meltwater plunges into the ice), and move through formations that shift year to year. The guide shares the glacier's history and geology as you go. Then comes the climbing. A vertical ice wall where you're roped in and supervised the whole way up. No prior climbing experience is needed. The wall is designed for beginners, and the ropes and expert eye keep you safe.
Three hours on the ice means you're done by early afternoon, leaving the rest of your day open. Groups max out at six people per guide, so you get real attention and time to absorb what you're doing instead of rushing through a crowd. Coffee and tea are waiting back at basecamp when you're finished.

Yes. Ticket types: Youth (14 to 17 years). Children under 14 can't be included in the booking.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Can I do this if I've never climbed ice before?
Yes. The ice wall is beginner-friendly and designed for people with no climbing experience. Your guide teaches you the techniques on flat ice first, then supervises you on the wall with ropes and safety gear the whole way.
What's the difference between the glacier hike and the ice climbing part?

How fit do I need to be?
Moderate fitness is required. You're walking on uneven ice terrain and climbing vertically, so you need to be comfortable with physical effort and some exertion, but you don't need to be an athlete.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
The guide will assess conditions on the day and decide whether it's safe to proceed. If conditions are unsafe, you can reschedule or receive a refund. The operator prioritizes safety over running the tour.
