Golden Circle & Laugarás Lagoon Tour: 10-hour Small Group Iceland
The Golden Circle ends in a geothermal lagoon, not a parking lot.
A 10-hour guided tour from Reykjavík visits Þingvellir National Park, where you walk between tectonic plates, then Geysir's erupting Strokkur geyser and Gullfoss waterfall before soaking in Laugarás Lagoon, Iceland's newest geothermal spa opening in August 2025. The tour includes Laugarás entry, towel and a complimentary drink; you choose between the Lerki or Birki ticket option at checkout, which determines your lagoon experience. Lunch is on your own at the Geysir visitor center.

The Experience
Ten hours sounds long until you see what fits inside it. The tour leaves Reykjavík and heads straight to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet at the Álmannagjá gorge. You walk between them—the ground literally splits beneath your feet, widening a few millimeters every year. The same site held Iceland's first parliament, so the geology and the history stack on top of each other. From there it's on to the Geysir Geothermal Area, where Strokkur erupts every 5 to 10 minutes, shooting water 20 meters high (sometimes 40). The visitor center here is where most groups stop for lunch, with several dining options on hand.
Gullfoss comes next—the name means "Golden Waterfall," and in spring it lives up to it. Fed by the Langjökull glacier, the Hvítá River thunders over the falls at up to 2,000 cubic meters per second, about 20 times the winter flow. On clear days you can see the glacier itself in the distance. The tour then moves to its real draw: Laugarás Lagoon, opening in August 2025. Set beside a river in isolation, it holds warm geothermal water at 37°C, a cold plunge pool, two saunas and a swim-up bar. You soak here as the day winds down, with a towel and a complimentary drink from the bar included. The Lerki and Birki ticket options differ in their lagoon amenities—you pick which one suits you when you book.
The vehicle is air-conditioned, a guide leads the whole day in English, and the tour runs at a pace suitable for all fitness levels. WiFi is on board for the drive between stops. Children from age 8 are welcome. Pickup from Reykjavík is included, though the specific meeting point depends on which ticket option you choose.

Is this one for you?Choose the Lerki option if you want the full lagoon experience with all amenities, or the Birki option for a more streamlined visit—both end the day soaking in geothermal water instead of heading straight back to town. Small groups keep the stops from feeling crowded, and the 10-hour span means you see three of Iceland's most famous sites and still have time to unwind before the drive home.

What exactly happens when you walk between the tectonic plates at Þingvellir?
At Þingvellir National Park, you walk into the Álmannagjá gorge, the visible rift where the North American and Eurasian plates meet. The gorge widens a few millimeters each year, so you're literally standing in the gap between two continents. The site also marks where Iceland's first parliament was held, adding historical weight to the geology.
How often does Strokkur geyser actually erupt?
Strokkur erupts every 5 to 10 minutes, shooting water up to 20 meters high, sometimes reaching 40 meters. The nearby Great Geysir, which the word "geyser" itself comes from, is now dormant but was once said to erupt to 100 meters.
What's the difference between the Lerki and Birki ticket options for Laugarás Lagoon?
Both options include entry to Laugarás Lagoon, a towel and a complimentary drink from the in-lagoon bar. The Lerki and Birki tickets differ in the specific lagoon amenities and experience level they provide—you'll see the details when you choose at checkout.
Is lunch included in the tour price?
Lunch is not included, but the tour stops at the Geysir visitor center, which has several dining options. You can eat there before moving on to Gullfoss and Laugarás Lagoon.
What time does the tour depart from Reykjavík?
The tour is 10 hours total from Reykjavík, including all stops and driving time. Pickup from Reykjavík is included; the specific meeting point and departure time depend on which Laugarás ticket option you select at checkout.
