The Experience
I thought I’d feel ridiculous on a Segway, but Budapest just makes it work. The first few minutes wobbling in the square (with our guide, Ádám, grinning and promising “you won’t crash—probably”) were honestly the hardest part. Once we set off, it was like the city opened up—no traffic to dodge, just that smooth hum underfoot and the river glinting between buildings. We zipped past the Chain Bridge lions, who looked as unimpressed as ever.
Ádám kept tossing out little facts—like why there’s a Zero Km stone right where we started (“all Hungarian roads begin here!”) and which windows at Buda Castle still have bullet scars. I didn’t expect to care about statues or bridges, but something about hearing local stories while rolling through both Buda and Pest made it stick. At Fisherman’s Bastion, he pointed out a wedding couple posing awkwardly in the wind. Their laughter kind of echoed off those white arches—I still think about that view over the Danube.
We stopped for a minute on Margaret Island near the musical fountain. There was this faint smell of cut grass and something sweet—maybe waffles from a cart? A group of teenagers were practicing some TikTok dance nearby (badly), which Ádám found hilarious. The Segways made it easy to cover so much ground: Heroes’ Square with its wild statues, Andrássy Avenue lined with old trees, even outside Széchenyi Thermal Baths where steam drifted into the chilly air. Somewhere along City Park I realized my feet weren’t tired for once—kind of miraculous for me in any European city.
Tour includes pickup if you need it (we met at their shop), plus a raincoat if Budapest decides to surprise you. Training was quick—15 minutes tops—and helmets are non-negotiable (I looked like an egg but survived). The best part? Ádám never rushed us; he let us linger at Parliament when golden hour hit and didn’t mind my endless questions about goulash versus paprikash. So yeah…if you want to see both sides of Budapest without feeling like you’re racing through a checklist, this is probably your thing.
What’s included
Your day includes a short but thorough Segway training session with helmet provided (no skipping!), raincoat if needed for sudden weather changes in Budapest, guidance from a local expert who shares stories along both Buda and Pest routes—and options for pickup or meeting directly at their shop before gliding off together.
