The experience
You start in the classroom with a short video covering diving fundamentals, taught by certified instructors who walk you through what to expect. The confined water session comes next. A controlled environment where you'll get comfortable with the BCD, regulator and fins before anything else happens. This is where you learn to breathe underwater and move in the gear without the pressure of the open reef.
Once you're ready, the real dive begins. The barrier reef sits just a few meters offshore, and visibility is clear enough to spot the marine life that makes Roatan a top Caribbean diving destination. You'll see colorful corals, crabs, fish and lobsters moving through the water. The whole experience runs about three hours from start to finish, including the classroom time and both water sessions.
Pickup happens at your hotel, resort or cruise port: the operator arranges the transport. Bring your BCD and fins sizes when you book so the gear is ready when you arrive. Bottled water and tropical fruits are provided during the session. This is not a PADI certification course, so you're free to dive without the paperwork, though you'll have the skills and confidence to do it safely.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What's the difference between Discover Scuba Diving and getting PADI certified?
Discover Scuba Diving is an introductory experience that teaches you to dive in one session without earning a certification card. You learn the basics, practice in confined water, and dive the reef, but there's no formal credential at the end. A PADI certification course takes longer and results in a card you can use to dive independently anywhere in the world.
Do I need to know how to swim to take this class?
The class is suitable for all physical fitness levels, though it's not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health. Being comfortable in water helps, but the instructors will guide you through every step in the confined water before you go to the reef.
What marine life will I see on the reef dive?
The barrier reef around Roatan is home to colorful corals, crabs, fish, lobsters and other species. The water clarity and proximity to shore, just a few meters out, make it easy to spot them as you descend.
What happens if I'm arriving by cruise ship?
Cruise passengers can book this dive and arrange pickup from the port. At booking, you'll need to provide your ship name, docking time, disembarkation time and re-boarding time so the operator can time the pickup and return to match your ship's schedule.
Is the diving gear included, or do I need to bring my own?
Diving gear is included in the class. You'll need to provide your BCD and fins sizes at booking so everything fits and is ready when you arrive.
