Park your car in Belize, walk across the border, and let the guide handle the tickets.

This tour departs from the Belize border and takes you across into Guatemala to explore Tikal National Park, one of the largest and most important Mayan sites in Central America. Your guide meets you on the Guatemalan side after you cross on foot, and pre-purchased tickets mean you skip the entrance queues. You travel by air-conditioned vehicle and walk the site with a live guide who speaks English or Spanish.

The experience

The logistics are built around your own pace: you park your car in a safe lot on the Belizean side next to the customs building, then cross the border on foot. Your Tikal Go guide is waiting for you on the Guatemalan side to begin the tour. This setup works if you're already in Belize and want to avoid the hassle of arranging transport from a hotel or town. You drive yourself to the border and hand off from there.

Tikal itself is one of the largest ceremonial centers of the ancient Maya civilization, and the tour covers the major structures and plazas by vehicle and on foot. The guide handles the entrance tickets in advance, so you don't queue at the gate. You step straight into the park. The air-conditioned vehicle moves you between the main areas, and the guide provides commentary on what you're seeing. The whole experience runs seven to nine hours depending on how much ground you cover and how long you spend at each stop.

Moderate fitness helps (you'll be walking around the site and climbing some structures), but the vehicle does the heavy lifting between zones. Bring water, sun protection and sturdy shoes. Lunch is included, and the guide speaks English or Spanish, so you get live interpretation throughout the day rather than a recording or a silent walk.
