The experience

Your guide meets you at your hotel in San Ignacio and handles the border crossing into Guatemala. The drive takes you through jungle to Tikal National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979 and the largest excavated archaeological site in the Americas. Once there, you have four hours with your guide to explore the ruins on foot: walking forest trails between the temple complexes, standing beneath the towering structures, and learning the history of Tikal's rulers and ceremonial spaces. The pace is relaxed, designed for all fitness levels, so you move at a comfortable speed even in the heat.

The tour covers Complex Q and R, the Main Plaza, Temple 3, Temple 4, and the Lost World Complex, the most impressive of Tikal's structures. You'll spot wildlife moving through the jungle canopy as you walk between sites. Lunch is provided within the national park, and a soft drink is included. After the four-hour exploration, your guide assists with the return border crossing and drops you back at your hotel in San Ignacio.
