The experience
Eight hours means you move through both cities without rushing the stops. The guide drives you in a comfortable vehicle and walks you through the historical points: start at Cerro de la Cruz for the elevated view of Antigua, then down to La Merced Church, one of the city's most important religious buildings. You pass under the Santa Catalina Arch on 5th Avenue (the spot where most photos get taken), and walk through Central Park to see the Cathedral of Santiago ruins, the Captain General Palace, and the City Hall.
The tour then shifts to the Capuchinas Convent, founded in 1736 as the last female convent in Santiago de los Caballeros, where the guide explains the life the nuns lived inside. From there you travel to Guatemala City and Kaminaljuyu, the largest archaeological site in the city, where the guide walks you through the Maya history. The day ends in the Historical Center of Guatemala City: you walk around the Central Market, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the National Palace of Culture, Constitution Plaza, and La Sexta avenue.
Pickup is included, and the vehicle has air conditioning, bottled water, and WiFi. Admission to all sites is covered. The guide speaks English or Spanish. You choose at booking.
