The experience
Dogleg Reef sits in front of the dive shop in Apra Harbor, so you walk from the beach into the water instead of boarding a boat. The reef is split by depth: first-time divers and those without certification get a briefing on gear use from an instructor, then descend to a maximum of 20 feet on a shallow reef thick with coral and tropical fish. Certified divers who haven't been in the water for a while find the same shallow section an easy refresh. If you're experienced and current, you can go deeper (down to 75 or 80 feet), where the sand bottom holds scattered WWII artifacts now colonized by coral and sea life. Green sea turtles and hawksbill turtles live in the area and show up on most dives.
You choose one dive or two when you book. All necessary gear is included: BC, regulator, weights, mask, snorkel, boots and fins. Bring swimwear, towels and dry clothes for the ride back. The shop provides drinking water, showers, changing rooms and a port-a-potty on site. Groups can mix certified and first-time divers on the same outing. A live guide speaks English or Japanese. If you need hotel pickup, it's available on the 8am departure. Otherwise, arrange your own transport: taxis on Guam run high, so contact the shop if you need help with other timing.
Maximum group size is four divers per guide. The dive takes about two and a half hours total. Underwater photos are available at an extra charge. Let the shop know your dive gear sizes and weights when you book, and mention if you're a first-time diver or haven't been certified.

Is this one for you?Book the two-dive option if you want to try both the shallow reef and the deeper WWII artifacts in one outing. The one-dive option works if you're refreshing skills or want a single immersion. Choose the 8am hotel pickup if you need transport from your accommodation: otherwise arrange your own ride, as the shop's location in Apra Harbor is not walkable from most hotels.
