The experience
Fort Frederick crowns Richmond Hill at the center of St. George's, a bastion fort with a 360-degree view of the capital. You walk through its grand arches and look south onto the Carenage (the colonial waterfront lined with colorful Caribbean buildings, shops and restaurants), then north to the rolling mountain ridges. The fort itself is the vantage point. The food tastings happen as you move through the town below, learning how Grenadian cooks use spices and seasonings in everyday cooking and tasting authentic local eats, bites and sips including chocolate made on the island and local alcohol.
The half-day tour stops at the House of Chocolate, a hand-crafted mini-museum with a small café serving chocolates made onsite, ice cream, cakes and drinks, plus a boutique of cocoa products. If you book the full-day option, the tour continues through the lush rainforest up to Annandale Falls, where water cascades over rocks and tropical flowers and trees surround the trails, then on to Grand Etang National Park. At the crater lake (1,800 feet above sea level). You feed the lake's fishes, see Mount Qua Qua, and interact with the Mona monkeys that live there. The guide walks you through the rainforest and explains the park's plants and animals as you move through.
A live guide in English leads the tour and pickup is included. The operator asks that you contact them before booking if you have severe food allergies. The half-day runs three hours. The full-day extends to six hours.
