The experience

Your captain knows the north coast and can steer toward the spots you actually want to spend time in. The boat itself is built for it: a 5.5-meter speedboat with a sun canopy overhead, a sunbathing area, and enough room that six people don't feel cramped. The captain speaks English and carries water, lifejackets and all the safety gear you need.

The route covers the main draws. You'll pass the Katharo Plateau, where the island's fishing port sits and the ferry to Kefalonia departs, then head to the Blue Caves: a series of sea caves and rock arches where you can enter if conditions are right and swim in the coves nearby. Navagio Beach, the famous shipwreck beach with its turquoise water, is a photo stop from the boat. If you want to swim at Xygia Beach, where the water carries a natural sulphur smell, you can ask the captain to stop there too. The tour runs four hours, which is long enough to see everything without eating up your whole day.

The boat docks at a cove if you'd like to stop for lunch. You bring your own or arrange something beforehand. The captain is there to advise on timing, water conditions and which hidden spots are worth the detour. Can we actually swim inside the Blue Caves, or just look at them from the boat?

Swimming in the Blue Caves and the coves around them is possible if sea conditions allow it on the day. Your captain will assess the water and let you know what's safe. Even if swimming isn't possible, you'll travel through the cave arches by boat and see them up close.

What is Navagio Beach and why is it famous?

Navagio Beach is a cove on the northwest coast of Zakynthos, known for the wreck of a cargo ship that ran aground there in the 1980s. The shipwreck sits on the sand, and the beach is surrounded by tall limestone cliffs. You'll see it from the boat and have time to photograph it.
