Step-by-step itinerary
Wine tasting and local sights in Nemea
- Optional visit to archaeological site of Nemea
- See Corinth Canal and Acropolis of Corinth
- Travel to mountainous Nemea region
- Tour winery facilities and learn wine process
- Taste wines and enjoy wine-tasting experience
The experience
Nemea sits in the mountains inland from Corinth and produces wines found nowhere else: most notably the deep red Agiorgitiko, which thrives only in this region's soil and climate. The day starts with a drive past the Corinth Canal, a narrow waterway cut through solid rock that connects two seas, then climbs into the wine country where dozens of wineries operate. You'll visit two of them, chosen for the range and quality of what they pour.
At each winery, the process unfolds from the ground up: you walk through the facilities while the winemaker or staff explains how grapes move from harvest through fermentation to the bottle. The talk covers the specifics of each variety the winery makes, the choices that shape flavor, and how the Nemea terroir (the soil, altitude, and climate) makes these wines distinct. Questions are welcome throughout. Then you taste: several wines from each winery, time to sit with them, and a chance to talk with other visitors doing the same.
The whole experience runs five to six hours. If you want to add an archaeological stop (the ancient Temple of Zeus and the site where Hercules killed the Nemean Lion, according to myth), you can choose that at booking. Entry fees to the site are separate. The driver is English-speaking and stays with the group the entire time.

Is this one for you?Book this tour if you have a free afternoon and want to taste wines where they're made, rather than at a bar or shop. The private transport means the driver picks you up, handles the route, and brings you back without you arranging a car or navigating mountain roads: useful if you're arriving by ferry or train and don't have a rental.

Top questions
What exactly is Agiorgitiko and why does it only grow in Nemea?
Agiorgitiko is a red wine variety native to Nemea, and the region's combination of altitude, soil composition, and climate create conditions the grape needs to thrive. Wineries across Greece and beyond have tried growing it elsewhere without success, which is why Nemea's version is considered unique.
Do I get to taste wine at both wineries or just one?
You taste at both wineries. Each one has its own varieties and labels, so you'll sample different expressions of local wines and compare how different producers work with the same grapes.
Is the Corinth Canal visit a separate stop or just a drive-by?
The Corinth Canal is a brief stop on the route to Nemea. You'll see it and learn about it, but the main focus of the day is the two wineries and their tastings.
Can I visit the archaeological site of ancient Nemea on this tour?
Yes, the Temple of Zeus and the ancient Nemea site are optional and available at checkout. Entry fees to the archaeological site are not included in the tour price.
What's the minimum age for this wine-tasting tour?
You must be at least 18 years old to participate in the wine tastings.
