Step-by-step itinerary
Cruise through Corinth Canal
- Board Agios Andreas boat at Isthmia port
- Enjoy glass-bottom views of the sea
- Pass through the Corinth Canal
- Marvel at towering cliffs and engineering
The experience
You board the St. Andreas at Isthmia port after pickup from Corinth Train Station. The boat holds 50 passengers and sits low enough that the glass bottom lets you watch the water below as you enter the canal. The passage itself takes roughly an hour to two hours, depending on other traffic using the waterway.
The canal is narrow, so narrow that the boat's sides nearly touch the cliff walls as you move through. Those walls reach up to 80 meters high, and they're the reason this route exists: the alternative is a three-day sail around the Peloponnese. The channel was dug by hand starting in the 1880s, finishing a dream that Periander and Nero had attempted centuries before. Your guide explains the history and the geology as you pass through, and the glass bottom reveals the seabed beneath you.
The trip includes a traditional sweet and a bottle of water. Children from age 2 are welcome, and infants can sit on an adult's lap or travel in a stroller. The boat is suitable for all fitness levels, and public transport options are available near the port if you prefer not to use the train station pickup.
