The sweet wine at the end is a Malvasia made nowhere else in Greece.

A guided wine tasting in Monemvasia pairs six local varieties (from dry whites and rosés to reds and a sweet Malvasia) with traditional cured pork, Graviera cheese and Kytherian olive oil rusks. The tasting runs about 80 minutes, takes place Tuesday through Saturday, and welcomes all fitness levels. Vegetarian and vegan pairings are available on request.

The experience

You taste six wines that tell the story of what grows in this corner of the Peloponnese. The lineup moves through Kydonitsa and Monemvasia whites (both dry), a dry rosé called Panther, two reds (Monemvasios and Mura Rossa), and finishes with PDO Monemvasia-Malvasia, a sweet white that carries the region's name and its winemaking history in a single glass. A guide who knows the vineyards speaks English or Greek and walks you through each one.

Each wine arrives with food: Sigklino, a traditional cured pork from the region; Graviera cheese from a local maker called Kyriazakos; and rusks made with Kytherian olive oil. If you eat vegetarian or vegan, the kitchen swaps the pork and adjusts the rest. Bottled water comes with the tasting. The whole thing takes about 80 minutes in a room built for this: no vineyard visits because the slopes here don't allow it, but the winery itself is wheelchair accessible and has restrooms designed for mobility needs.

The winery sits where a regional intercity bus passes in front. You can ask the driver to stop nearby. If you're staying in Monemvasia town or elsewhere on the coast without a rental car, this matters: you don't need one to get here. Hours run Tuesday through Saturday, 10am to 4pm. The minimum age is 18.
