Breathe underwater in a volcanic reef full of fish.

The SSI Try Scuba program is a 3-hour introduction to scuba diving in Santorini, Greece, where you receive instruction on shore, then descend into a volcanic reef with an English- or Greek-speaking guide. The dive itself lasts 35–40 minutes. You'll need to wait a minimum of 12 hours after diving before flying. Children from age 8 are welcome; all fitness levels can participate.

The Experience

The program runs three hours total. Your instructor briefs you on shore before you enter the water, covering the basics of breathing underwater and how to move in the weightless environment. Then you descend into the volcanic reef surrounding Santorini, where the water is clear enough to see the marine life that lives among the rock formations. The dive portion lasts 35–40 minutes—long enough to get the feel of it without overwhelming a first-timer.

All scuba equipment is provided: tank, wetsuit, mask, fins and regulator. Snacks are included. You don't need to own or rent gear separately, and you don't need certification beforehand—this is the entry point. The instructor stays with you the entire time, watching your breathing and your comfort in the water. If you've never tried it before, this is how you find out whether you want to pursue it further.

One practical note: you'll need to wait at least 12 hours after the dive before you fly. If you're arriving in Santorini and want to dive the same day, plan your flight to land early enough that you can complete the program and still meet the waiting period before departure.
