The Experience
The adventure starts at Perissa's black beach at 9:30am or 5pm, depending on which departure you choose. You leave the main roads immediately and ride off-road through volcanic landscapes, the kind of terrain most visitors never see. A professional guide leads the way, and the route stays on dirt trails that wind through the island's interior—no highway riding, no crowded tourist zones.
Your first real stop is Emporio, a medieval village built into narrow streets so tight they feel like a labyrinth. You park the ATVs and walk through the old town on foot, past the Venetian castle and historic architecture that survived centuries. From there you ride toward the windmills with views across the whole island, then cut through vineyards toward Megalochori, probably Santorini's most traditional village. The landscape shifts as you go—volcanic rock, grapevines trained in the island's unique basket shape, and the kind of quiet you don't find near the caldera's rim hotels. At Megalochori you stop inside a historic wine cave, a working cellar where you taste three authentic Santorini wines paired with local snacks. If you haven't grabbed coffee earlier, there's a traditional coffee house in the village too.
After the break you ride to the caldera viewpoint, one of Santorini's most breathtaking spots. You stand high above the volcano with the whole caldera spread below you—a place built for photographs. On the evening tour, this is where you watch the sunset. The final stretch takes you through volcanic canyons carved over thousands of years, terrain accessible only by ATV and known to very few visitors. The whole ride is 3.5 hours, including stops.
You ride a brand-new 450 or 550cc ATV, and the tour includes a safety briefing before you start. Fuel, third-party insurance, helmet, bottled water, and the wine tasting with snacks are all covered. If you're bringing a passenger instead of riding solo, two people can share one ATV (available only for even-numbered groups). The pickup is free from your hotel—just provide your accommodation details when you book, and the driver will meet you there. Cruise passengers meet in front of McDonald's instead. You'll need a physical driver's license to ride; passengers don't need one.

Can I ride an ATV on this tour if I've never done it before?
Yes. The tour includes a safety briefing and professional instruction before you start, and the guide leads the whole route. The off-road trails are scenic but not extreme—the tour is suitable for all fitness levels as long as you meet the age requirement of 21 to drive.
What happens at the wine tasting stop in Megalochori?
You stop inside a historic wine cave and taste three authentic Santorini wines paired with local snacks. The cave is a working cellar where the island's wine-making tradition is still alive, and you'll learn about the native grape varieties grown in the vineyards you rode through.
Is the caldera viewpoint really the best place to watch the sunset on Santorini?
The caldera viewpoint on this tour is one of the island's most dramatic spots—you stand high above the volcano with panoramic views and the whole caldera below you. The evening tour is timed so you reach it as the sun sets, and it's known to very few visitors compared to the crowded rim hotels.
What's included in the price, and what do I need to bring?
The tour includes the ATV, helmet, fuel, insurance, a safety briefing, professional guide, bottled water, coffee or juice, and the wine tasting with snacks. Bring your physical driver's license if you're riding, wear clothes you don't mind getting dusty, and bring sunscreen and a camera.
How does the pickup work if I'm staying in a hotel on Santorini?
Pickup is free from your hotel—just provide your accommodation address when you book, and the driver will meet you there at the scheduled time. Morning tours start at 8am, evening tours at 3pm, though times shift earlier in spring and fall when daylight is shorter. If you're arriving by cruise ship, the meeting point is in front of McDonald's instead.
Can two people ride together on one ATV to save money?
Yes, two people can share one ATV, but this option is only available for even-numbered groups—you can't book it for a single pair. One person drives while the passenger holds on; both get the same experience and both are included in the wine tasting and all stops.
