The experience

Four to five hours is enough to see most of Mykonos without a rental car. The driver-guide handles the route while you watch the island unfold: Agios Ioannis beach across from Delos, then up to Armenistis Lighthouse, built in 1891 and sitting at one of the highest points on the island where you can see neighboring Cyclades islands. From there the route moves through Panormos and Agios Sostis beaches, then north to Ftelia, where windsurfers gather and a private church sits waiting. It may be open when you arrive, or it may not.

The middle of the day centers on Ano Mera, the traditional village inland, where you stop long enough to walk around and visit the Monastery of Panagia Tourliani, established in 1542. After that comes a sequence of beaches: Merchia, where locals collect salt from the rocks and you can do the same; Kalafatis, famous for sailing and windsurfing; Kalo Livadi, one of the longest stretches on the island; and Agrari, where you have the option to swim or sunbathe for 45 minutes if the schedule allows. If you skip the swim, the tour keeps moving. The route ends at a viewpoint over Mykonos Town for photos, then drops you wherever you're staying.

Your driver-guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or one additional language, and the vehicle is air-conditioned. Pickup and drop-off are included, along with bottled water and a Mykonos map. The pace is set by the stops themselves, not by rushed timing. You move through the island at the speed of a local who knows where to go.
