The experience
Mykonos Town's streets were designed centuries ago to confuse invading pirates: today that means a maze of whitewashed corners, fishermen's boats, small private chapels and the island's famous windmills. Your driver picks you up at your hotel or cruise ship port in a private, air-conditioned vehicle and takes you through the old town in the early morning when it's quiet enough to photograph. You'll spot Petros the Pelican, Mykonos' mascot, and get oriented to the labyrinth before heading out to explore the rest of the island.
The second main stop is Ano Mera, a traditional village 6 kilometers inland where you have free time to walk around the square and visit Panagia Tourliani Monastery, built in the 16th century. From there the tour moves to the beaches: Kalafatis first, where you can relax for a while and grab a coffee or refreshment at your own cost, then Ornos and Agios Ioannis on the way back to town. The final stop is a viewpoint overlooking Mykonos Town and the neighboring islands.
Your English-speaking driver provides information throughout the morning about the island's history and what makes Mykonos distinctive: the Cycladic architecture, the fishermen, the small chapels dotting the landscape. The whole route takes four hours from pickup to drop-off.
