Morning tour of Mount Olympus and Dion
- Visit archaeological site of Dion
- Explore Crusader Castle of Platamon
- Hike Enipeas gorge to Zeus' bathtub
The experience
The tour starts at 9am at the archaeological site of Dion, where the ancient Macedonian sanctuary dedicated to Zeus and the gods of Olympus once stood. You'll walk the grounds and the museum to see Greek statues, mosaic floors and ceramics left from the worship rituals that took place here. From there, the minibus heads to Platamon Castle, a 13th-century Crusader fortress built on a hilltop to guard the valley of Tempe and the roads connecting Macedonia to the rest of the country: one of the largest medieval fortresses still standing in Greece.
The final leg takes you to Mount Olympus, where you'll hike through the gorge of Enipeas in search of the bathtub of Zeus, a natural pool beneath a waterfall carved into the mountainside. The trail winds through the gorge, and the waterfall marks the end of the hike before the tour returns to Litochoro, a traditional Macedonian village. An air-conditioned vehicle carries the group between sites, and bottled water is provided throughout the morning.
