Walk the hidden paths, then rise above the rocks you just crossed

Combine a guided hike through Meteora's UNESCO rock forest with a powered paragliding flight above it: four hours total, split between a morning trek through 14th-century monasteries and an afternoon flight in a motorized paratrike with a certified pilot. The hike starts at 9am from the Monastery of Saint Nicolas and crosses the rock formations to reach hidden sites and the Dragon Cave. Flights depart between 5pm and 7pm depending on weather and sunset, with each flight lasting 15–20 minutes. A live guide speaks English and Greek. Full safety equipment is provided.

The experience

The hike begins at the Monastery of Saint Nicolas and threads through the immense rock formations toward the northern side of Meteora, passing a hidden monastery before reaching either the Great Meteoron or Varlaam. The route descends an old footpath through the Dragon Cave, a mysterious passage carved into the rock. This section ends by 1pm, giving you time to rest and eat before the afternoon flight.

The powered paragliding happens in the late afternoon or early evening, depending on weather and the time of sunset. You'll meet at the takeoff field, receive a short briefing, and climb into a motorized paratrike piloted by a certified instructor. The flight lasts 15–20 minutes per person, long enough to circle above the rock forest and see the monasteries from above: the same landscape you walked through hours earlier, now spread out beneath you. Full safety equipment is included. You wear a seatbelt and helmet throughout.

The hike and flight are both included in one booking, though you arrange the exact meeting times with the operator based on group size, weather conditions and daylight. Public transportation options exist nearby if you need them to reach the starting point.

Is this one for you? This combines two different ways of seeing the same landscape (walking through the rock formations in the morning, then flying above them in the afternoon), so you experience Meteora from both ground level and the air. The shared format means you hike and fly with a group. The schedule is fixed around the 9am start and the sunset-dependent flight window, which keeps both activities within a single day.
