The experience
The tour starts at the Acropolis, where your guide walks you through the Parthenon, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion and the Propylae. The masterpieces that have shaped Western architecture for twenty-five centuries. Before heading to the monuments, you'll hear the mythological stories that built these temples: the goddess Athena, the ancient rituals, the reasons each stone was placed. The guide also shows you the Temple of Olympeion from the outside, the colossal sanctuary of Zeus that once rivaled the Acropolis itself.
After the monuments, the tour shifts to food. You move through Plaka's narrow alleys below the Acropolis, then into the city's working food market (the one locals fill each morning for produce, fish and meat), where you taste Greek tapas, local cheeses and sweets. Psirri, the neighborhood where craftsmen once worked and street art now covers the walls, is your last stop for more tastings and a look at how the city eats now. The route also passes Syntagma Square and Hadrian's Library, tying the ancient and modern city together in a single thread.
You'll receive a fun ancient Athens map and walk with a small group kept intentionally small for conversation and comfort. The guide speaks English or French. Choose your language when you book. Public transportation runs near the meeting point, and the pace suits all fitness levels. Strollers, backpacks and large bags aren't permitted at the Acropolis itself, so pack light. If you'd like the operator to pre-purchase your Acropolis entry tickets, let them know at booking.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and French.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (6 to 17 years); Infant (under 6): free.
What exactly is inside the Acropolis that I'll see on this tour?
The Acropolis holds the Parthenon (the temple of Athena), the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion and the Propylae, each one a masterpiece of ancient architecture. Your guide walks you through all of them and explains the mythology behind each structure: why it was built, who it honored, what happened there.
How much of the tour is walking around ancient sites versus tasting food?
The first part focuses on the Acropolis and its monuments, then the route moves into the city's neighborhoods for tastings in Plaka, the food market and Psirri. The balance shifts from history to flavor as the morning goes on, so you're not standing in one place for long.
What kind of food will I actually taste on this tour?
You'll sample Greek tapas, local cheeses and sweets as described in the itinerary. The tastings happen in the food market where locals shop daily and in Psirri, one of the city's main neighborhoods for eating and drinking. The exact items vary by season and what's available that day.
Do I need to buy my own ticket to enter the Acropolis, or is it included?
Entry to the Acropolis is not included in the tour price, but the operator can pre-purchase tickets for you before the tour starts. Just let them know when you book. If you prefer to buy your own, make sure you purchase them for the correct time slot, or you may not be able to join the tour.
Is this tour suitable if I'm visiting Athens for the first time?
Yes. The guide covers both the mythology and the architecture of the Acropolis, so you don't need prior knowledge. The route also takes you through Plaka and the food market, which are the neighborhoods most first-time visitors want to see, and you get to taste the food that defines the city.
