The experience

The team meets you at the terminal entrance with a sign reading "VEXPERIO" and loads you into an air-conditioned minibus with up to 19 other passengers. From there, the route moves fast: you pass Pasalimani and Mikrolimano harbors on the way out of Piraeus, then the Temple of Olympian Zeus slides into view. Those Corinthian columns are what's left of one of the ancient world's largest temples. The Arch of Hadrian marks where old Athens became Roman Athens. Either way, you regroup on the bus and head to Syntagma Square to watch the Evzones, the Presidential Guards, change shifts. After that, a photo stop at the Academy of Athens and the University of Athens if traffic allows, then you're loose in Monastiraki and Plaka for an hour. Monastiraki is the market square: handmade crafts, souvenirs, the noise of it. Plaka is the narrow streets below the Acropolis, cafés and tavernas and the feeling of being in someone's neighborhood. You eat, you buy, you sit. Then the bus takes you back to the port, or if your cruise is ending here, you can stay in Monastiraki and the guide will point you toward your hotel or the airport. The whole thing is timed so you're back at the ship before it leaves.
