The experience
The Rock of Gibraltar anchors this tour, and the guide takes you through the main sites in a single morning or afternoon. You start at the 100 Ton Gun, one of only two remaining in the world, installed in the early 1800s. From there the route moves to Europa Point Lighthouse on the southeastern tip, a functioning lighthouse since 1841, where the views across the Strait to North Africa frame the mythology: Gibraltar and Jebel Musa in Morocco are the two Pillars of Hercules, the point where Hercules broke through the Atlas Mountains and joined the Atlantic to the Mediterranean.
The Nature Reserve itself, maintained by the Ministry of Environment, holds the Barbary Macaques and layers of history. St Michael's Cave sits at the heart of the Rock. The cave runs deep into the limestone and hosts concerts because of its acoustics. In 2021 it opened "The Awakening," a high-tech light projection show tracing the site's evolution. The Great Siege Tunnels, also called the Upper Galleries, are a series of passages the British carved into solid limestone during the late 18th-century siege, and walking through them puts that history in your hands. The tour ends at the glass-floored viewpoint, a structure of four layers of laminated glass at 340 meters, where the 360-degree views settle what the day has shown you: the Rock from every angle, the Strait, the African coast, the Spanish mainland.
Private transportation means you travel in an air-conditioned vehicle with the guide, not in a shared minibus. Pickup is included, so the day starts from your hotel or accommodation.
