The experience

Kane Kwei workshop is where the coffin craft happens. You'll watch the carpenters at work, seeing how they shape wood into designs that reflect a person's life: a fish for a fisherman, a Mercedes for someone who loved cars, a chicken for a farmer. The workshop itself is the real thing: no stage, no performance, just the tools and the wood and the skill that has made this place known across Ghana and beyond.

After the workshop, you move into the three-storey gallery space attached to it, filled with finished coffins on display and smaller art and craft pieces for sale. You can walk through at your own pace with a sales representative, or browse alone if you prefer. Many visitors pick up smaller souvenirs (carvings, textiles, other handmade work), though nothing is required. The air-conditioned vehicle waits outside, and your guide stays with you throughout.

The tour runs two to three hours total. Private transportation picks you up from your hotel or wherever you're staying in Accra, so you don't need to arrange a taxi or navigate to the workshop yourself. Bottled water is provided. Children from age 11 can join. Younger children from age 1 to 10 go free if they're with an adult.
