The experience

The tour opens at the W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre, where the American scholar and Pan-Africanism pioneer lived after Dr. Kwame Nkrumah invited him to Ghana to edit an encyclopedia of African history. His home is now a museum holding his personal belongings, honorary awards, library publications, his tomb, and the cremated remains of his wife: a physical record of the intellectual work that shaped the continent's political movement.

From there you move to Independence Square, the vast open space commissioned in 1961 during Queen Elizabeth II's visit to Ghana. The square holds the independence arc, the black star gate, and the Liberation monument, all symbols of Ghana's self-reliance and national unity. It's a working civic space that hosts political rallies, religious gatherings, and concerts, so you're seeing where the country's public life actually happens. Then comes the Arts and Craft Market, where you walk stall to stall among vendors selling kente cloths, beads, carvings, and other Ghanaian-made pieces: a chance to handle the work and talk directly with the makers.

The final stop is the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and Memorial Park, the burial place of Ghana's first president and the spot where he declared the country independent. The museum displays his personal effects, publications, photographs, and videos spanning his life from childhood through his political career and overthrow. Hotel pickup and drop-off within Accra, all entrance fees, local transportation, and guide support are included. The tour runs between four and seven hours depending on how long you spend at each site.
