The experience
Three to five hours takes you through the places that shaped Accra. Makola Market, built in 1924, remains the city's main wholesale and retail hub and a center of Ghanaian social life. You'll move through the stalls and the rhythm of daily trade. The National Museum of Ghana, founded in 1957, holds three collection areas (archaeology, ethnography and art) with objects spanning from the Stone Age forward: indigenous musical instruments, beads, traditional textiles, furniture and pottery that trace the country's cultural arc.
The Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and Memorial Park marks the burial place of Ghana's first president and a founding father of the African Union. Opened in 1992 on the grounds of a former British colonial polo field, the memorial sits as a physical reminder of Ghana's shift from colonial territory to independent nation. From there, the Arts Centre brings you to interactive drumming lessons where you can pick up rhythm and technique, then move through the shops to bargain for souvenirs. The tour ends at Black Star Square, Accra's monumental independence landmark, where towering arches frame the ocean and the city skyline.
Your guide speaks English throughout, and the vehicle stays air-conditioned between stops. Bottled water is provided, and all entry fees and taxes are covered in the price. Children from age five are welcome on the tour.
