The experience

Nine days gives you time to move slowly through three countries without rushing between stops. The tour starts in Accra with the Dr. Nkrumah Memorial Museum, Black Star Square and the Art Centre, then heads to Cape Coast for the Kakum National Park canopy walk (a suspended bridge through the forest canopy), and Elmina Castle. From there you move into the Volta Region to visit the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary and a waterfall before crossing into Togo.

Togo's leg centers on Lomé: the biggest market in the city, the Monument de l'Indépendance, the National Museum, and the largest fetish market in Africa. You also visit the slave castle and Togò Ville before heading into Benin. In Benin, the focus is on spiritual and historical sites: the Temple des Python, the Door of No Return, and the Museum of History in Ouidah. The final stop is Ganvie, a village built entirely on stilts in a lagoon, where you spend a night before returning to Accra for departure.

A private driver and air-conditioned vehicle stay with you for all nine days. WiFi is available on board. Your guide speaks English or French, and pickup from your hotel or airport is included. Accommodation is in 4-star hotels in Accra and Ganvie, and 3-star hotels in the coastal and Beninese towns.

What is the Kakum canopy walk like?

Kakum National Park's canopy walk is a suspended bridge strung between the treetops, letting you move through the forest at height and see the landscape from above. The park is visited on day three during the Cape Coast leg of the tour.

What happens at the fetish market in Togo?

Togo's fetish market is the largest in Africa and sells traditional spiritual items, herbs, charms and ritual objects used in West African spiritual practices. It is a working market, not a tourist display, and offers a direct look at how these traditions function in everyday life.

What is Ganvie village and why spend a night there?

Ganvie is built entirely on stilts in a lagoon in Benin, with houses, shops and schools all constructed over water. Staying overnight lets you experience the rhythms of life in a place where water is the foundation of everything: travel between homes is by canoe, and fishing is the primary livelihood.
