Berlin: Reichstag Dome & Government District Guided Tour
Inside the Bundestag: Berlin's Parliament & Political Heart
You walk the government district with a live German-speaking guide, learning the architecture and political history of the Bundestag complex. You attend a presentation in the Chamber itself, then explore the Reichstag dome and roof terrace independently with audio guides in your language. Registration and entry are included; the whole experience takes around three hours.
Step-by-step itinerary
Guided tour of Berlin government district
- Meet at interactive exhibition building
- Visit Berlin Hauptbahnhof station
- See the Parliament of Trees memorial
- Explore Marie Elisabeth Luders House
- View Paul Loebe House offices
- Walk through Band des Bundes ensemble
- Visit Reichstag plenary hall presentation
- Tour Reichstag dome and roof terrace
The Experience
You don't expect the Reichstag to feel so alive from the inside. The guide walks you through the government district first—past the Marie Elisabeth Lüders House with its Grand Hearing Hall, the Paul Loebe House with over 1,700 rooms, and the Parliament of Trees, planted in 1990 to mark the Berlin Wall. It's all connected, all deliberate, and your guide explains the architecture and the politics at the same time, which makes the whole thing click. Berlin Central Station sits at the edge of it all, the largest tower station in Europe, and it anchors the whole district visually.
Then you move into the Reichstag itself. There's a presentation in the Chamber—in German—where you stand in the public gallery and watch the actual plenary hall below. It's one thing to read about how the Bundestag works; it's another to see the space where it happens. After that, you're on your own with an audio guide (available in many languages) to explore the roof terrace and the dome. The views from up there are the kind that make you understand why this building matters—you can see the whole city spread out, and the dome itself is the thing everyone photographs.
The tour runs about three hours with the expert guide leading the walking portion through the district. Registration for the Reichstag visit is handled by the operator, so you don't have to arrange that separately. Wheelchair access is available throughout, and the whole site is built to be navigable. The Chamber presentation is recommended for kids 14 and up, though younger children can still visit the dome and terrace on their own pace.
