Step-by-step itinerary
Tbilisi lakes and sightseeing tour
- Pick up from hotel or Airbnb
- Visit Georgian Stonehenge monument
- Explore the beautiful Gardenia Shevarnadze
- See Vake park and WWII memorial
- Stroll around Turtle lake
- Visit open air Ethnographic museum
The experience
The tour starts with pickup from your hotel or Airbnb, then heads out to the colossal Chronicles of Georgia monument: a Soviet-era structure often called the Georgian Stonehenge that anchors the city's visual history. From there you move into Gardenia Shevarnadze, the garden a horticulturist built after traveling abroad and deciding Tbilisi needed its own version of what he'd seen elsewhere. It's a deliberate counterpoint to the monumental sites: small, cultivated, personal.
Vake park comes next, with its WWII memorial and the green hills that frame it. Then Turtle Lake, a small body of water perched on a hill away from the city noise, ringed with cafes and playgrounds where Tbilisi residents actually spend their afternoons. The Ethnographic museum sits between Turtle Lake and Vake park on the same hillside: an open-air collection of original historical houses from different regions of Georgia, each one preserved to show how people lived centuries ago. Walking through it takes time, but you control how much: the guide can minimize or skip it entirely if you prefer.
The car is private, the driver speaks English, and the route is built to avoid the central tourist zones. Bottled water and wifi are on board. All entrance fees are covered, and the whole outing runs four to six hours depending on how long you spend at each stop.
