The guide leads you to Cook's Bay first, where the steep volcanic walls rise straight up from the water, then across to Opunohu Bay on the other side of the island. Between the two, you'll stop to snorkel with stingrays and blacktip sharks in shallow water. The animals are accustomed to visitors and stay calm. The guide stays with you in the water.

You ride solo or as a pair on your own jet ski, which means you set the pace within the route the guide takes. If dolphins or whales are passing through (they show up seasonally), the guide will point them out and adjust course if there's a sighting. Turtles are common year-round. The whole outing runs 2 hours from start to finish. You'll wear a lifejacket the entire time. The operator provides it. When you return to the jet ski club, there's a small welcome waiting: a local touch that marks the end of the ride.

Pickup happens from your hotel, pension or cruise ship at no extra cost, and the guide speaks English or French. The operator runs departures throughout the day between 7am and 6pm, so you can book an early slot if you want the morning light or a later one if you're still settling into the island.
