Step-by-step itinerary
Full-day tour of Taha’a island

- Tour Mana’o Distillery and rum tasting
- Lunch on private motu with live music
- Return boat transfer to Bora Bora
The experience
Seven to eight hours gets you from your Bora Bora hotel to Tahaa and back, with the boat transfers included. The day centers on three working sites that most visitors to French Polynesia never reach: Vanilla Prod, a family plantation where you'll see how Tahitian vanilla (one of the world's most prized spices) moves from hand-pollination through months of drying; Ia Ora Na Pearl Farm, where you learn how black pearls are grafted from oysters, grown, and harvested; and Mana'o Distillery, French Polynesia's first organic rum producer, where you taste their agricole rums made from hand-harvested sugarcane. Each stop is led by someone who works there, not a tour guide passing through.
Lunch lands on a private motu with live music, a setup that anchors the middle of the day. The menu is a Polynesian barbecue: grilled fish and chicken with rice salad, raw fish in coconut milk, banana cake, Tahitian meats, and a local dessert. Bottled water and local juices come with it. Alcoholic drinks are not included, though the rum tasting at Mana'o happens before lunch.
The boat leaves from Bora Bora and returns there. No hotel changes, no separate logistics to arrange. A live guide in English or French leads the stops. Children from age one travel with the group, and the tour suits all fitness levels.

What is Tahitian vanilla, and why does Vanilla Prod matter?
Vanilla Prod is a family-run plantation on Tahaa where Tahitian vanilla (prized for its rich, floral aroma) is grown using traditional methods. You'll walk through the vanilla vines and see the hand-pollination and months-long drying process that makes this variety distinct from vanilla grown elsewhere.

Mana'o is the first organic rum distillery in French Polynesia, making agricole rum from hand-harvested sugarcane grown in the island's lush fields. Yes, a tasting session is part of the tour, where you sample a selection of their rums. Alcoholic beverages beyond the tasting are not included in the tour price.
Where do we eat lunch, and what's on the menu?
