The Experience

We started rolling just as the city was turning gold—one of those Paris evenings when even the air feels soft. Luc kept us moving but never rushed—he pointed out tiny things I’d have missed, like how the statues on Pont Alexandre III seem to glow after sunset. We zipped past the Tuileries Garden and suddenly there was the Eiffel Tower, not just standing there but sparkling for real. I tried to take a photo but mostly just stared. On Île Saint-Louis, we slowed down; an old man was playing accordion under a lamp and it felt like some movie cliché except it was actually happening. My hands smelled faintly of metal from gripping the handlebars—odd detail but it stuck with me.

I didn’t expect to feel so much part of Paris traffic without any stress—the e-bikes handled curbs and cobbles better than my own legs would’ve managed. The group was mixed: teens, a couple from Spain, one woman who kept shouting “Bon soir!” at everyone (she got plenty of waves back). Riding along the Seine after dark is still in my head—the city’s noise softened, bridges lit up, people sitting by the water with bottles of wine.
