Launch from the mountainside and glide above Mont-Blanc

A tandem paragliding flight over Chamonix pairs you with a certified French instructor for a 15–20 minute flight above the Chamonix valley, departing from Plan de L'Aiguille. The activity lasts about 90 minutes total and includes your helmet, the instructor's full insurance coverage, and a smooth introductory flight designed for first-timers. You'll need to book your departure time according to your weight. The operator asks you to arrive 10 minutes early and recommends good shoes and a jacket. Photos and video of the flight are available to purchase separately.

The experience

Paragliding in Chamonix starts at Plan de L'Aiguille, where you meet your instructor before the flight. The takeoff itself is straightforward. You and your pilot launch together from the mountainside, and within minutes you're airborne above the Chamonix valley with Mont-Blanc in front of you. The flight itself runs 15–20 minutes, long enough to settle into the view and feel the air currents beneath the canopy without the intensity of a longer expedition.

Your instructor handles all the flying. You're along for the ride, but not passive. You'll feel the thermals and the turns, and the instructor can point out landmarks as you drift. All pilots hold official French paragliding teacher certificates and carry full insurance that covers both of you. They speak English and French, with some also speaking Spanish. The whole outing (meeting, gearing up, flying and landing) takes about 90 minutes.

Booking depends on your weight. In summer, fliers under 60 kg book the 9 or 10 am slot; those 60–85 kg book at 10 am or later; anyone over 85 kg books at 11 am or later. Bring good shoes, a jacket and sunglasses. Leave the big bag behind. If you want photos or video of the flight, ask the operator when you book. They cost 35 euros and you can pay after landing. The cable car ticket to reach Plan de L'Aiguille is not included and you'll buy it at the meeting point.
