You’ll step into Molinard’s historic workshop in Nice to create your very own custom perfume alongside an expert guide. Smell and select from 90 different essences using a real perfumer’s organ, then bottle your unique scent to take home. Includes all materials, access to their mini museum, and a diploma — plus small moments you’ll remember long after you leave.
We ducked into Molinard’s old stone doorway just as the sun started heating up the street outside. Inside, it was cool and smelled — not overwhelmingly floral, more like a hundred tiny notes layered together. Our guide, Lucie, greeted us with this easy laugh and handed out aprons. She told us we’d be using a real perfume organ (which I’d never even heard of before), lined with these little glass bottles. The whole table looked like something out of an old science lab, but softer somehow.
I kept mixing things up — literally — because I couldn’t decide between the spicy or citrusy essences. Lucie explained how every perfume has its own “architecture,” which made me feel both creative and slightly lost at the same time. She let us sniff everything, even the weird ones (there’s one that smells like cut grass — who knew?). At one point I got a whiff of something that reminded me of my grandmother’s garden back home. Didn’t expect that wave of nostalgia in Nice. The other folks at the table were just as into it; one woman from Lyon kept giggling every time she tried to pronounce “bergamot.”
By the end, I’d somehow settled on a mix that felt like summer evenings — light but with this warm undertone. We each poured our creations into proper glass vials (mine still sits on my dresser). Lucie handed out little diplomas with a wink, and I wandered through their mini museum for a few minutes before heading back out into the city air. Even now, if I catch that scent again, it takes me right back there — hands slightly sticky from all those oils, laughing over tiny bottles with strangers who didn’t feel like strangers for long.
