The Experience

The tour starts with pickup from your hotel in the morning and a scenic drive along the Mediterranean coast toward Eze, a medieval village perched on a hill about 1,400 feet high. The route passes over Monaco, Nice and Villefranche, so you see the coastline unfold before you arrive. Once in Eze, you take a guided tour of the Fragonard perfumery to learn how traditional French perfume is made, then browse the artisan shops in the village before heading back down.

On the return to Monaco, the minivan passes through La Turbie, known as the Terrace of Monaco, where you stop at the Trophy of the Alps—a Roman monument built by Emperor Augustus 2,000 years ago. Then you reach Monaco itself. The guide takes you to the Prince's Palace to watch the Changing of the Guard at 11:55 am, then to the Monaco Cathedral, which holds the tombs of Prince Rainier and Princess Grace and features Roman-Byzantine architecture. You drive the Formula 1 circuit—the actual street used for the world-famous Grand Prix race—before arriving at Casino Square for photos outside the Monte Carlo Casino, the Hotel de Paris and the surrounding luxury boutiques.

After the guided portion, you have free time to explore Monaco-Ville (also called Le Rocher, or The Rock) on your own, with sweeping views over the port and sea. This is when you can have lunch at a place of your choosing and wander the medieval streets. If you want to visit the Oceanographic Museum or go inside the Prince's Palace, those are available at your own cost. The tour wraps up with your return to the port.
