The experience
You meet your guide in the Chartrons district and spend time getting to know the e-bike before setting off. The route starts in Bordeaux's historic center, cycling past the Pont de Pierre (the city's first stone bridge, built in the 19th century), and the Grosse Cloche, the medieval gate that once controlled entry to the city. Saint-André Cathedral traces the city's arc from the Middle Ages onward. A tree-lined path along the Garonne's right bank offers views of the Place de la Bourse before the route leaves the city behind.
Once you cross into the countryside, the landscape shifts. You follow the Roger Lapébie cycle path, a safe, tree-lined route that winds through woods and villages in complete quiet. The villages come one after another: Sadirac, known for its pottery heritage; Créon, a former English fortified town now lined with local producers and cafés; and Saint-Laurent-du-Bois, home to the ruins of the Abbey of La Sauve-Majeure, an 11th-century Benedictine abbey that dominates the landscape. The hills grow steeper as vineyards thicken around you. At Sadirac, roughly halfway through, you stop for a French-style picnic: cheese, charcuterie, bread, seasonal vegetables, a cannelé sweet cake, and wine.
The final stretch takes you across the Pont de Branne, a metal bridge over the Dordogne River that marks the symbolic crossing from Entre-Deux-Mers into the Saint-Émilion region. You cycle through the vineyards surrounding La Gaffelière, an iconic Grand Cru Classé estate, before arriving in Saint-Émilion itself. The village (UNESCO-listed, built on cobblestones and carved into rock) is yours to explore on foot at your own pace. Your guide will share tips on how to spend the rest of the day. If you choose, you can add a visit and wine tasting at a family-run château in the appellation (15€ per person, booked separately).
