Step-by-step itinerary
Afternoon wine tour from Dijon
- Meet at Saint-Bénigne Cathedral
- Drive along Route des Grands Crus
- Wine tasting of 4 to 5 wines
- Visit Clos de Vougeot château
- Return to Saint-Bénigne Cathedral
The experience
You have a free afternoon in Dijon and want to taste real Burgundy wines without spending the whole day traveling. This tour solves that: your guide meets you at Saint-Bénigne Cathedral at 2pm, a few minutes from the city centre and the train station, and you board an air-conditioned minibus heading straight into the Route des Grands Crus. The drive itself is the first part of the experience. You're moving through the vineyard landscape that made Burgundy famous, not just reading about it.
At a carefully selected domaine, a winemaker guides you through a tasting of 4 to 5 wines in the cellar itself. You taste from village appellations up to Premier Crus, and the winemaker walks you through the techniques and traditions that built the region's reputation. This is not a quick pour-and-move tasting. You're learning how the wines are made and why the soil and geology matter to what ends up in your glass.
The tour includes a scenic stop at Clos de Vougeot, where you stand before a medieval château overlooking a sea of ancient vines. Your guide brings the history and geology of these terroirs to life, connecting what you tasted at the domaine to the land itself. You return to Saint-Bénigne Cathedral by 6pm, leaving the afternoon free but the wine knowledge and the taste still with you.
