The experience
Eight to nine hours means you move through the entire Canadian landing zone without rushing between stops. The guide walks you through the planning and preparations of the Canadian 3rd Infantry Division, then takes you to where the Canadian Scottish and Royal Winnipeg Rifles came ashore against fortified German positions. At Juno Beach Centre, you learn the tactical details of the assault. At Graye-sur-Mer and Courseulles-sur-Mer, you stand where the Queen's Own Rifles and other regiments broke through the coastal defences. The route covers the western and eastern flanks of the Canadian sector, so you see how the landing unfolded across the beaches.
The Mulberry Harbour at Arromanches (the artificial port the Allies built and used until December 1944) anchors the first part of the day. You'll see the remains of this engineering feat, then move inland to ALG B-4, where you learn about the temporary airfields the Allies constructed and the missions flown by the RCAF. At most sites there's free time to take photos, use restrooms or grab a coffee. The tour ends at the Bény-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery, where you pay respects to the fallen. The guide also covers Abbey d'Ardenne and the site where Canadian POWs were murdered by the SS, so the full scope of the Canadian experience (combat, logistics, loss) fits into one day.
Private transportation in an air-conditioned vehicle means you travel only with your group. The driver and guide are yours for the full eight to nine hours. All entry fees and taxes are included in the price. The tour is wheelchair accessible and suitable for all fitness levels, though it is not recommended for children under eight.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Dutch.
What exactly is the Mulberry Harbour and why does it matter to the D-Day story?
The Mulberry Harbour was an artificial port the Allies built and towed across the English Channel to supply the invasion. It remained in use until December 1944 and was a critical piece of the logistics that kept the landings supplied. You'll see the remains of this structure at Arromanches.
Which Canadian regiments landed on Juno Beach and where did they come ashore?
The Canadian 3rd Infantry Division landed elements of the Canadian Scottish and Royal Winnipeg Rifles at Courseulles-sur-Mer and Graye-sur-Mer against heavily fortified German defences. The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada came ashore at Bernières-sur-Mer, and the North Shore New Brunswick Regiment landed at St Aubin-sur-Mer with British Commandos.
Does the tour include lunch or museum entry?
Lunch is not included, so you'll need to arrange a meal at one of the stops or bring your own. Museum entry tickets, such as at Juno Beach Centre, are optional and not included in the tour price.
How does the private format work compared to a group tour?
You travel only with your own group in a private air-conditioned vehicle with a dedicated guide and driver for the full eight to nine hours, rather than joining other travelers on a shared bus.
