The Experience
The day starts with a pickup from Montpellier and a drive into the Camargue wetlands, where you enter Pont de Gau Ornithological Park. Your guide shares knowledge about the pink flamingos and other birds that live in the park, pointing out species and behaviors as you walk the pathways. The park is the centerpiece of the morning — a chance to see the birds in their habitat without the setup of organizing transport or entry on your own.
After the park, you move into the vineyards for the wine portion of the day. Maud and Brenda lead you through a wine nose game, teaching you to recognize aromas before you taste. This is not a formal tasting room; it happens in the heart of the vineyards themselves, followed by a picnic with local products — the lunch is built into the day, so you eat where the wine is made. Bottled water comes with the meal.
The afternoon takes you to Aigues-Mortes, a medieval walled city with its own history. Brenda walks you through the streets and explains the city's past, then leaves you with free time to explore on your own — to climb the ramparts, find a café, or simply wander. The return to Montpellier closes the day.
