The Experience

The ride starts with a safety briefing, then heads out along routes built for bicycles through neighborhoods most visitors miss on foot. You'll cross the Pont de Pierre, the city's oldest stone bridge, to see the 18th-century quay facades from the right bank, then loop through the Darwin eco-district and under the Jacques Chaban-Delmas bridge—a drawbridge that opens to let boats into the port. The Chartrons district comes next, where Bordeaux's wine merchants once traded; you'll pass the old cellars and antique shops on rue Notre Dame before the route turns toward the center.

A break happens in the Jardin Public, where you'll taste a local canelé—the small pastry Bordeaux is known for—while the guide talks through the city's history. The second half threads through the historic core: the Grosse Cloche (the 13th-century gate), the Basilica of St. Michael with its 114-meter bell tower, the Girondins Monument and its fountains, the Grand Theatre, and the water mirror facing the Place de la Bourse. Cobbled squares and terraces fill the route through the old quarters. The pace is steady but not rushed; the whole loop takes 2 to 3 hours.

Beach cruisers are comfortable for city riding and suit the flat terrain.
