The experience

The tour leaves Bordeaux in the morning and heads straight to a working oyster farm on the Banc d'Arguin, where you taste six oysters paired with a glass of local white wine and learn how the oysters are farmed in the basin. After that, you climb the Pilat Dune itself: a 110-meter wall of sand that shifts year to year and is the largest in Europe. The walk up takes effort, but the view from the top stretches across the entire Bassin d'Arcachon and out toward the Atlantic.

At noon you reach Arcachon's waterfront with free time to eat where you choose, or you can reserve a table at a restaurant overlooking the bay. The afternoon is a guided walk through the town's historic center, past the Belle Époque villas and through the parks that line the shore. You'll have time to browse local shops and pick up regional food and wine before heading back to Bordeaux. The whole day runs about nine and a half hours, and your guide picks you up and drops you off at your accommodation in Bordeaux.

As an option, you can add a boat trip on the basin with white wine. The operator will arrange it when you confirm your booking. The schedule can shift depending on which activities and stops you choose, and the guide will contact you after you book to finalize the details. Service animals are welcome, and infant seats are available if you need them.
