The experience

The Citroën 2CV is the vehicle that carries you through the Médoc: a convertible that opens the drive itself into part of the experience. Your guide, Cécilia, meets you and shapes the day around what matters to you, moving between carefully selected châteaux rather than following a fixed route. The car seats up to four passengers comfortably, and the journey between estates becomes a chance to talk about what you've just tasted and what comes next.

Château Paloumey is an organic family estate where you walk the vineyards and enter the barrel cellar to understand how the wines are made. A tasting of four wines follows, moving across three Médoc appellations: Haut-Médoc, Moulis-en-Médoc, and Margaux. Each wine is paired with the terroir it comes from: the soil, the slope, the microclimate that shapes its character. Then you drive to Château Angludet, where the tasting happens on the terrace in the gardens. Three more wines, chosen to show you the range of Margaux, arrive with a gourmet picnic: French cheeses, charcuterie, and a local dessert, all served in what the estate describes as an enchanting setting. A stop at Château Margaux itself (the avenue is unavoidable on the Château route), and a final tasting at Château Grand-Puy Ducasse, a 5th Grand Cru Classé on the Pauillac riverbank, complete the day.

The tour runs six to seven hours. Water, a detailed vineyard map, and all entrance fees, tastings and visits are included. You'll need to be at least 18 to book. A guide speaks English, Spanish or French depending on your choice at checkout.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, Spanish and French.

What are the three Médoc appellations I'll taste on this tour?

Château Paloumey introduces Haut-Médoc, Moulis-en-Médoc, and Margaux through four wines, each one rooted in the specific terroir of its appellation. The tasting at Château Angludet then focuses on Margaux itself, and Château Grand-Puy Ducasse represents the Pauillac appellation.

Is the gourmet picnic included in the price?

The picnic of French cheeses, charcuterie and local dessert is served on request only at Château Angludet, and costs €30 per person. Water and wine accompany the meal, and coffee and a dessert are offered afterward.

How many people can fit in the Citroën 2CV?

The convertible seats up to four passengers, so the tour stays private to your group and no larger.

What happens at Château Angludet?

Château Angludet sits off the main Route des Châteaux, approached through a forest. You taste three specially selected wines on the terrace in the estate's gardens, and if you've arranged it, the gourmet picnic is served there as well.

Do I need wine knowledge to enjoy this tour?

No. Cécilia explains the concept of terroir as you walk the vineyards and visit the barrel cellar at Château Paloumey, so you learn how the wines are made and what shapes their character. The tastings build on that foundation.
